A lifelong mission born from the timeless wisdom of Bhagavadgita.
Bhagavadgita Foundation exists to take the wisdom of Bhagavadgita beyond the pages of a sacred text — into music, education, everyday life and selfless service, so that its message can reach people across generations and across the world.
Mission started in Hyderabad in 2008.
A Wisdom Meant to Be Lived
For the Bhagavadgita Foundation, Bhagavadgita is not simply an ancient text to be studied, recited or preserved. It is a living body of wisdom about how a human being can face responsibility, overcome confusion, cultivate character and live with purpose.
This belief sits at the heart of everything the Foundation undertakes. The purpose is not merely to preserve the Bhagavadgita, but to make its wisdom accessible, understandable and relevant in everyday life.

700 verses
The complete Bhagavadgita, given a voice
When Bhagavadgita Found a Voice
In 1974, 'Padmasri' Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao brought a selection of Bhagavadgita verses to generations of Telugu listeners through his unforgettable musical rendering. He recorded 106 out of the total 700 verses, giving them a voice that combined devotion, music and meaning.
For countless families, his Bhagavadgita became part of how the sacred verses were heard, remembered and cherished. Among those inspired by that legacy was Dr. L.V. Gangadhara Sastry. What began as an admiration for a great musical tradition eventually became a lifelong mission to carry the complete Bhagavadgita forward.

Completing all 700 verses was far more than a musical undertaking. It was an act of devotion, scholarship and perseverance that demanded years of preparation and the collective effort of scholars, musicians, technical experts and supporters.
Inspired by Ghantasala's legacy, Dr. L.V. Gangadhara Sastry chose not to stop at selected verses. He undertook the extraordinary task of creating the world's first complete musical rendition of the entire Bhagavadgita — all 700 verses in Sanskrit, with meanings in Telugu and English. What began as a personal inspiration became a lifelong mission to make the timeless wisdom of Bhagavadgita accessible to generations beyond his own.

A Life Dedicated to Bhagavadgita
For Dr. L.V. Gangadhara Sastry, Bhagavadgita was not simply a subject to sing about or speak about. It became the guiding purpose of his life.
Through music, gita discourses and years of travel, he has devoted himself to taking the message of Bhagavadgita to people across India and around the world, with a particular commitment to making its wisdom accessible to Telugu-speaking communities everywhere.

His journey rests on a simple belief that the wisdom of Bhagavadgita can help anyone:
- Develop right character and discover the purpose of life
- Perform one's duties with the greater clarity
- Contribute to a more peaceful and selfless society
What began with a deep conviction in the transforming power of Bhagavadgita has grown into a non-profit spiritual and social service organization. Established in Hyderabad on 19 January 2008, the Foundation exists to disseminate the inspiring message of Bhagavadgita universally, not only through music and discourses, but through education, character development and selfless service.
Its work is guided by a belief that this wisdom should not remain distant from everyday life. It should reach children in their formative years, families in their homes, communities through shared experiences, and individuals wherever they are seeking clarity, courage and purpose.

Wisdom becomes meaningful when it is lived
At the heart of our work is a simple conviction and five principles that follow from it.
Wisdom should be lived
Bhagavadgita is not only to be read or recited, but practiced; its teachings should shape the way we live.
Every person deserves access to its wisdom
Its message is meant to reach people regardless of age, gender, caste, creed or nationality.
Character is the foundation of society
Education should develop not only knowledge, but character, responsibility and compassion.
Service is a form of spiritual practice
Selfless service is not separate from spiritual life; it is one expression of it.
The next generation matters
This wisdom should be made accessible to children and young people, so it can continue across generations.
A dream for generations to come
Dr. L.V. Gangadhara Sastry's journey does not end with the work accomplished so far. His larger dream is to establish a Bhagavadgita University — a permanent center dedicated to spirituality, education and social service.
It is envisioned as a place where the wisdom of Bhagavadgita can be studied, experienced, taught and carried forward to future generations. It has not been built yet. It is the reason the mission continues.
Some missions are measured by what has already been built. Others are measured by what they continue to inspire us to build.
