Our Mission
There is a pressing need to view Bhagavadgita as a manual for an ethical, noble and ideal way of life and as an outstanding work on personality development. With this object in mind, teaching Bhagavadgita and explaining its essentiality in real life from childhood itself has been set as the primary goal by the Foundation.
When the Mission Meant Changing a Misconception
The Foundation's commitment to making Bhagavadgita relevant to everyday life emerged alongside another challenge: a deep-rooted social misconception that had come to associate the Gita with death and old age.
Under the guidance of Dr. L.V. Gangadhara Sastry, the Foundation worked to change that perception through education, public awareness, media engagement, programs, discourses and direct outreach to those perpetuating the association.
Bhagavadgita is not a symbol of death.
It is a guide for living.
One of the Foundation's guiding principles follows from this: making Bhagavadgita available is only the beginning. Its wisdom must also be made accessible and engaging for people living modern lives — through music, education, discourses and service.
The work continues, because changing a decades-old perception requires education, persistence and a society willing to carry the message forward.
Our Mission in Action
The Foundation's work has taken two very different forms — and together they describe what it is really trying to do.

Foundation Projects
Musical Bhagavadgita with Meaning
Bhagavadgita Foundation has been putting in tremendous efforts to bring this great work in a musical format with translations in various languages, within everyone's reach through an organized endeavor. The Foundation is in the process of having this musical Bhagavadgita played in several Krishna Temples in various parts of the country in their respective regional languages — Hindi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Odiya — and also in world languages including English, German, Russian and French.
Gita Education
Propagating Bhagavadgita in schools, colleges, universities, temples and cultural events, and conducting classes on personality and character development based on its teachings. Teaching Bhagavadgita and explaining its essentiality in real life from childhood itself is the Foundation's primary goal.
Education & Social Service
Extending free education for orphaned and needy children, financial support for poor students and orphans, Goseva (protecting uncared-for cows), free medical camps, food distribution (Anna Danam) programs, and participating in Swachha Bharat and Environment Protection programs of the Government.
Gita Jayanthi & Discourses
Conducting Gita Jayanthi every year on Margashirsha Shuddha Ekadashi, with the chanting of all 18 chapters, Krishna dance ballets, bhajans, skits, dramas and the Gita Ratha Yatra — alongside Gita Gaana Pravachanam at temples, festivals and community gatherings across Bharat. The Foundation is also seeking the support of the Government of India to recognize the day as 'The International Wisdom Day' and to declare Bhagavadgita as the National Book of India.
Gita Propagation Tours

These programs take place at venues across the world — twelve countries so far — at the invitation and sponsorship of local organizations.

SupportedYoga classes, Sanskrit classes and the conservation of Vedic knowledge and the Shastras for future generations. The Foundation funds and encourages this work, and has long supported it, rather than conducting the classes itself.
Bhagavadgita Animation Videos Project
In progressTo inspire children and youth to enhance their spirituality, selfless service and duty-mindedness, the Foundation has embarked on making photorealistic 3D animation, short 5-minute videos of select 108 verses. Bhagavadgita Foundation is making efforts to have these videos played in queue complexes in popular temples and also on social media, TV and YouTube channels.

Gita Jayanthi — The International Day of Wisdom
Gita Jayanthi is not simply an annual cultural event. It is one of the Foundation's principal ways of bringing Bhagavadgita into public life — the same work of restoring it as a guide for living, carried out at the scale of a community.
Every year, on the auspicious occasion of Margashirsha Shuddha Ekadashi—the sacred day on which Lord Sri Krishna revealed the divine teachings of Bhagavadgita to the world — Bhagavadgita Foundation celebrates Gita Jayanthi with great devotion and grandeur.
Bhagavadgita Foundation is also actively seeking the support of the Government of India to recognize this sacred day as “The International Wisdom Day” and to declare Bhagavadgita as the National Book of India.
The celebrations are envisioned on a grand scale, with participation from over one lakh devotees in multi-day programs featuring the chanting of all 18 chapters of Bhagavadgita, Krishna dance ballets, bhajans, skits, dramas, and the Gita Ratha Yatra.
As part of these celebrations, distinguished individuals are honored through prestigious international awards. The most eminent teacher of Bhagavadgita is conferred the title “Gita Acharya” along with a cash award of ₹1,00,000, while the most outstanding student is awarded the title “Partha” with a cash prize of ₹50,000.
